A convicted sex offender who fled the area before his sentencing is back in Douglas County Jail.

Former Lawrence resident Joseph Schwartz was booked into the jail at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.

U.S. Marshals captured the convicted child molester April 13 at the Grand Canyon.

Schwartz is facing more than 12 years in prison after being convicted of two counts of aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

He had been free on bond, pending his sentencing, and then didn't show up for that court appearance.

Schwartz waived his extradition and was brought back to Douglas County. He's scheduled to appear before a Douglas County judge Friday afternoon.

It's not really any higher than it has been. It's just being reported more.

Hmm. Found him at the Grand Canyon. Should have just pushed him off the edge.

I have found a number of sites that verify this, but none that I would stand behind (none that are government sites as of yet). Although the information is there if you wish to dig through the numbers and calculate them yourself.

I will work on getting the info for you later today, but I am quite busy and don't have much time right now.
