Key road trip looms for KU

Three games in Nebraska may shape Kansas University’s postseason softball destiny.

The Jayhawks (29-18-1) will meet Nebraska at 6:30 p.m. today in Lincoln, Neb., then head up the road to Omaha for a Thursday afternoon twinbill against Creighton.

Both Nebraska (34-15) and Creighton (32-10-1) have RPIs in the Top 50, so a strong showing in those three games likely will enhance the Jayhawks’ chances of earning an NCAA Tournament berth.

Kansas and Nebraska met earlier this month at Arrocha Ballpark. The Cornhuskers posted a 3-0 win as right-hander Ashley DeBuhr allowed only two hits and fanned a dozen Jayhawks.

However, DeBuhr (17-7, 1.61 ERA) surrendered a career-high 10 earned runs in a 10-9 loss to Oklahoma last weekend, so the Jayhawks could face Molly Hill (15-8, 1.00 ERA) tonight at Bowlin Stadium.

KU is coming off a weekend series sweep at Texas Tech that pushed the Jayhawks’ record in true road games to 10-4. KU is 12-4-1 at neutral sites. KU’s record at home is 8-9, including 0-7 against Big 12 schools.

Kansas will conclude its home schedule this weekend with a pair of games against powerhouse Oklahoma.
