Jayhawks salvage Tech finale

? Kansas University junior John Allman went 2-for-4 with two RBIs and two runs scored, while freshman Wally Marciel allowed one run over 52â3 innings as the Jayhawks pounded Texas Tech, 8-1, in Big 12 Conference baseball Sunday at Law Field.

The Jayhawks, who avoided a series sweep, improved to 20-25 overall and 6-12 in the Big 12. The Red Raiders fell to 24-17, 7-10.

Junior Erik Morrison doubled in Allman to break a 1-1 tie and help KU score seven runs over the final four innings.

The offense backed Marciel, who earned his first conference victory. The 6-foot-2 left-hander allowed eight hits and one run. He struck out two batters in recording his fourth win.

Joe Servais doubled to plate Ryne Price with KU’s first run in the second inning. Texas Tech tied the game on a solo homer by designated hitter Chris Richburg to lead off the bottom of the third.

Junior John Allman was hit by a pitch with one out in the sixth and scored on a double by Morrison. Buck Afenir and Price drew walks to load the bases with one out. Larson worked an 0-2 count into a walk, and Servais drove in his second run with an RBI ground out.

Kyle Murphy led off the seventh with a single and then scored on Allman’s RBI single to center field. Two batters later, Afenir collected his first RBI of the weekend with a single to center to score Allman.

KU added two more runs in the ninth on RBI hits by Allman and catcher Dylan Parzyk. Allman was one of four Jayhawks with multiple hits. Murphy led the way with three hits and two runs scored.

Junior Hiarali Garcia and sophomore Paul Smyth held Texas Tech scoreless in their combined 31â3 innings of relief.

The Jayhawks will face Missouri at 7 p.m. Wednesday at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City, Mo.
