Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 22, 1907: “Better buy your kerosene now before a big raise occurs. That big fine recently assessed against Standard Oil has got to be paid and we can be sure we will help pay for it. : The Battleship Kansas has only about half as many crewmen as are needed and large recruiting efforts are under way, particularly in Kansas after which the ship is named. : Grocery stores here are undergoing inspections by state and federal health officials and are quite proud of how well they are doing in the ratings. The recent pure food laws passed in Kansas have helped to get proper treatment for groceries and related items. : It is reported that brewers recently ruled out of Kansas by our attorney general have indicated they will not try to return if they can be allowed to remove current property without penalty.”
