4-H and FCE news

The April meeting of the Lone Star 4-H Club was called to order by Christine Caffey, president.

Margaret Kalb, Carol Keen and Teresa Flory, from the Douglas County record book committee, were guests. Song leaders Bethany Ledom, Rowan Plinsky and Megan Williams led the club in “Little Bunny Foo-Foo.”

Members answered roll call by naming their favorite comedian. Mary Berg, leader, reminded members that camp applications are due soon and that the club needs to provide both junior and adult counselors. She also reminded the club that the county fair will be July 28-Aug. 5. She encouraged members who are interested in walking in the Earth Day Parade today to contact the extension office to reserve their spot.

The finance committee announced that the Swap Meet is May 4-6. The meet will start at noon Friday and end about noon Sunday. Members were asked to sign up for a shift to work.

Under old business, the club decided to celebrate 4-H Sunday on April 22 with the Lone Star Church of the Brethren. Members were asked to volunteer for the service. Michael Krumm and Becca Hinshaw were looking for members to sing at the service.

Under new business, the club was reminded that the last day to add or drop projects would be May 1; Discovery Days was scheduled to start May 29; and the Campference for members ages 12-14 will be June 26-29 at Rock Springs.

Members sang “Happy Birthday” to Haley Parker. The leaders thanked the club volunteers and asked them to recite the volunteer pledge.

Justin and Cole Narcomey gave a current events presentation. Margaret Kalb, Carol Keen and Teresa Flory gave a presentation on how to complete record books. The Metsker and Mesler families served snacks.
