Part of turnpike reduced to one lane

More than five miles of the Kansas Turnpike’s westbound lanes will be reduced today to one lane between Lawrence and Topeka.

The lane closure is necessary as crews work on a project that is expanding the turnpike from two lanes to three lanes.

Lanes affected are between mileposts 189.5 and 184. Milepost 189.5 is about 13 miles west of the West Lawrence interchange.

The lanes, which will close at 8:30 a.m. today, are slated to reopen late Thursday afternoon, according to the Kansas Turnpike Authority.
