Prompted by escalating education costs and the general state of the economy, the Kansas Board of Regents gave first-round approval to a 20 percent tuition increase for students in fiscal year 1984. If formalized, the tuition boost would be assessed in August 1983 and would affect all regents schools, including Kansas University.
