McDonald’s All-American White keeping options open

? Kansas City (Mo.) Hickman Mills High standout Tyra White, who recently played in the McDonald’s All-American game in Louisville, Ky., will wait to make a decision on playing basketball for LSU next season in the midst of a recent coaching change.

Van Chancellor was hired as LSU women’s basketball coach April 11 after Pokey Chatman’s abrupt resignation. Chatman resigned before the NCAA Tournament last month.

White said she wanted to meet Chancellor in person and have the new Tigers coach meet her family and AAU coach before making a final decision.

White signed a national letter of intent to play for LSU in November 2006. She strongly considered Kansas University before signing.

The possibility of White wearing crimson and blue is still within the realm of possibility. Most of the determining factor will be White’s meeting with Chancellor next week.

“Yeah, they still interest me,” White said of KU.

White said she hadn’t had any recent communication with KU coach Bonnie Henrickson.

“I was really interested because it was close to home and the Big 12 Tournament is going to be here next year,” White said about her interest in KU before signing with LSU. “If I didn’t go to LSU, I would consider it. I’m not saying I would go to Kansas, but I would consider going somewhere in the Big 12.”
