Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 14, 1907: “Did your garden freeze to death last night? Most of the gardens and growing things in town suffered badly from the cold snap that officially produced temperatures of 27 degrees. Some regions had it worse. Dr. Snow of KU says it was below freezing from midnight until about 8 a.m. today and that the damage could be severe. Fruit trees were particularly hard hit and there may be a big shortage of local peaches and applies this year. Ice was as much as a half-inch thick in some spots. : Judge James Green, dean of the university law school, has defended use of ‘expert witnesses’ in court, saying they are needed. He says claims of ‘prejudice’ by some lawyers are pointless because by their very nature ‘experts’ have a particular view, hopefully in light of the facts in a given case.
