Lawrence could be in line for snowfall

The sacks of potting soil and lawnmowers on display at Cottin’s Hardware might not do Lawrence residents much good this morning.

The snow shovels and salt that residents could use were sold out of the store about a month ago.

“Hopefully everyone in town got (them) during the last storm,” said Linda Cottin, manager of the store.

Residents might wake up to between 1 and 4 inches of mid-April snow today.

Rain and cold temperatures are expected the rest of this morning before the storms move out by this afternoon.

If it does snow, the city’s public works department was expected to have crews working overnight and possibly this morning.

“In the 16 years I’ve been here, we’ve never had snow in April,” said Tom Orzulak, Lawrence street division manager.

The good news is Sunday’s weather should feel somewhat more like spring weather with temperatures in the 60s.
