4-H and FCE news

The Vinland Family and Community Education unit will meet at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Vinland United Methodist Church. The hostess will be Mary Lou Brown. Lola Ford will give the lesson on “The Value of Fluids to Your Heart.”

¢The Douglas County Family and Community Education Council will offer its annual Spring Tea at 1 p.m. Friday at the Douglas County 4-H Fairgrounds, Building 21 North, 2110 Harper St. The program will be “First Impressions,” presented by Beth Hecht, K-State Research and Extension’s 4-H and youth agent from Leavenworth County.

¢The monthly meeting of the Clinton Eagles 4-H Club was March 26 at Wakarusa Valley School. Kahlyn Heine, president, called the meeting to order. Members answered roll call by naming their favorite thing that can be grown in a garden. Members signed up to work shifts at the concession stand for the Swap Meet set for May 4-6. Each family was asked to work two shifts. Members ordered free club T-shirts.

Delaney Deiker, secretary, read the minutes for the April meeting, which the club approved. Dustin Hoyt, treasurer, gave his report. Maria Penrod, recreation leader, announced that the club would play Octopus after the meeting. Song leaders Adam Spurling and Connor Shuck led members in singing “Bazooka Bubble Gum,” and pieces of gum were given to members.

Lanaea Heine, community leader, informed the club about livestock guidelines, county camp, a club exchange with the Pioneer 4-H Club, and VIP training. Erica Spurling, shooting sports leader, informed the club about a shooting sports meeting at Lone Star Lake. Participants will be able to learn about shooting and have a chance to practice.

Charles Garzillo, poultry leader, passed around a poultry catalog and asked members if they were going to make purchases. Kirstyn Heine, vice president, initiated two members into the club. Kasey Garzillo presented a program on her pigs and how to show them. Members adjourned the meeting by saying the club pledge and motto, and they participated in the recreation activity.

The club’s next meeting will be April 29 at Wakarusa Valley School.
