To the editor:

President Bush and the White House went out of their way to discredit House Speaker Nancy Pelosi when she met with Bashar Assad in Syria. According to the April 16 issue of Time magazine, Republican Reps. Frank Wolf, Joe Pitts and Robert Aderhoft met with Assad.

Whoops. That fact was not mentioned in their condemnation of Pelosi. Would one call that a double standard or just another attempt of the current administration to mislead the American public?

In answer to Mr. Wahl’s letter (Public Forum, April 10), no one has been as effective at discrediting the president as the president himself.
