From the Lawrence Daily World for April 13, 1907: “Kansas agencies already are lining up harvest hands for later this year because there has been a shortage of help in recent times. : There is a long list of entries for the YMCA athletic meet and carnival and it could be quite an event with athletes from all over attending and taking part. : Lawrence residents have been acquiring many more automobiles and there is growing fear of speeding. Police are handicapped by laws that outline the problem but do not provide penalties and ways to judge the speed of the vehicles.”
