Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 10, 1907: “The World has received appeals from the Russian Famine Relief Committee to call for people of Lawrence to help alleviate the suffering of millions of people in the land of the Czar. Outside help is badly needed, officials point out. : The fifth annual painting exhibition at the university will close April 20 and some outstanding art, including some by local people, makes the exhibit something everyone should see. : The Christian Church here has undertaken a church census for Lawrence to determine the sizes of congregations. Cards will be distributed to homes and door-to-door workers will also help determine the church population. : The Commercial Club here has endorsed the sale of stock by the Weber Piano Co. as a worthwhile venture fully deserving local support.”
