Two men arrested for armed robbery

Lawrence police arrested two men for an armed robbery March 31 at a convenience store.

Geoffry S. Beers, 31, and Justin L. Nichols, 34, both of Lawrence, were charged Friday with aggravated robbery for brandishing a knife at a cashier at the Kwik Shop at 845 Miss. and demanding money from the cash register.

They were booked into Douglas County Jail on Thursday.

Brenda Clary, Douglas County assistant district attorney, said at a hearing Friday that Beers had a felony drug conviction and Nichols had a robbery conviction and was on postrelease supervision at the time of his arrest.

Bond was set at $50,000 for Nichols and $30,000 for Beers.

They face up to 20 years and seven months in prison if convicted. Both are due back in court April 17.

Police have not said whether they suspect the two men were involved in other recent robberies at Dollar General, 1811 W. Sixth St., and the Conoco at 23rd Street and Haskell Avenue.
