The Kansas Authors Club, District 2, will announce winners of its writing contest during a meeting at 9:30 a.m. April 14 at the Lawrence Public Library, 707 Vt. The group also will meet at 9:30 a.m. May 12 at the Blue Valley Library, 9000 W. 151st St., Overland Park. More information about the club is available at www.kansasauthors.org.

¢Knights of Columbus Council 1372 announces awards for the first quarter of 2007. Knights of the Month were Gerald Denning, January; Randy Gengler, February; and Robert Steinlage, March. Families of the Month were Donald Walker, January; Ty Hicklin, February; and Dorian Witte, March.

¢Ulrich and Wolfgang Johanning received awards at the General Federation of Women’s Clubs’ District 2 music audition March 3 in Baldwin City. Ulrich, a freshman at South Junior High School, received an honorable mention for his cello performance. Wolfgang, a sophomore at Lawrence High School, received a certificate for his piano performance. The GFWC Lawrence Classics Club sponsored the two students.

¢University Bridge Club announces results of its March 31 meeting. Hosts were Ray and Myrna Ikenberry. Blue winners were Ray Ikenberry, first; Ruth Harwood, second; Karmie Galle, third; Lois Liebert, fourth; and Tom Waller, fifth.

Pink winners were Edna Galle, first; Donna Riehm, second; Janet Dunn, third; Virginia Williams, fourth; and Bebe Huxtable, fifth.

¢The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Howell movement at five and a half tables directed by Virginia Seaver on March 21. Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro won first in A, and Shirley Reese and Virginia Seaver won second. Lois Clark and Mark Osborn won first in B and third in A. Marge Hitchcock and Ginny Johnston won first in C and second in B.

On March 28, the club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 10 and a half tables directed by Chris Lane. The special game awarded sectional tournament level points at clubs for all games the week of March 26 through April 1. Playing North-South, Eldon Herd and Chuck Hedges won first in A and B. Susanne Wassmer and Wanda Durbin won second in A, and Virginia Seaver and Shirley Reese won third. Yvonne Hedges and Sally Taylor won second in B, followed by Carol Ball and Chris Lane who won third in B. Al Ballard and John Gilbert won first in C.

Lois Clark and Cathy Blumenfeld won first in A and B sitting East-West. Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro won second in A, followed by Jane Holliman and Mary Joyce who won third in A, second in B and first in C. Shari Krentzel and Nita Scales won third in B, and Florine Creek and Frances Vogel won second in C.

¢The Friday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at eight tables directed by Virginia Seaver on March 23. Mark Osborn and Bob Dailey won first in A and B playing North-South, and Sally Taylor and Betty Collier won second in both strata. Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough won third in A. At East-West, Carol Ball and Ann Thompson won first overall. Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro won second in A and Bobbie McCorkle and Jane Holliman won third in A as well as second in B and C. Don Daugherty and Harry Talley won third in B and C.

On March 30, the club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 11 tables directed by Virginia Seaver. Grant Sutton and Harry Shaffer led the North-South pairs, placing first in both A and B. Eleanor and Bobby Patton won second in A and B and first in C. Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough won third in A and B. Fiona Rochelle and Gladys Richard won second in C.

At East-West, Elizabeth Jankord and Amit Chakrabarti won first in A and B. Ed Howard and Bob Dailey won second in A, and Mark Osborn and Bill Hamilton won third in A and second in B. Nita Scales and Shari Krentzel won third in B. Ann Thompson and Mary Joyce won first in C.

¢The Sunday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at eight tables directed by Jeff Nash on April 1. Playing North-South, James Masilamani and Jeff Nash won first in A, followed by Clyde Romer and Kent McCullough who won second in A and first in B. Barbara Merriam and Dorothy Netson won third in A and second in B. First in C went to Elle and Bobby Patton Shari Krentzel and Katie Loseke won first in A and B at East-West. Virginia Hamilton and Vern Gregg won second in both strata and Emily Foster and Polly Schoning won third. Julie Frisbiue and Patti Griffitts won first in C.

¢The Monday Evening Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at nine and a half tables directed by Virginia Seaver on April 2. Playing North-South, Steve Phelps and Clyde Romer won first in A and B, followed by Christie Thomas-Collier and Rick Holzman who won second in both strata. Ken McCullough and Larry Bodle won third in A. First in C and second in B was won by Phyllis Brownlee and Madelyn Jenks. At East-West, Barbara Merriam and Dorothy Netson won first in A, B and C, followed by Elle and Bobby Patton who won second in all three strata. Jerry Sloan and Eldon Herd won third in A.
