Professor to be honored

Derek Davis, dean of the College of Humanities at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in Belton, Texas, will give the final speech in honor of a late Kansas University professor.

Davis will deliver “A United States Perspective on Religion, Politics and Government,” which covers legal issues about church and state separation, at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Unitarian Fellowship of Lawrence, 1263 N. 1100 Road.

The speech commemorates J. Eldon Fields, a longtime KU political science professor who was the first recipient of the Chancellor’s Club Career Teaching Award in 1981. He died in 2003 at the age of 90.
