Old Home Town – 100 years ago

From the Lawrence Daily World for April 6, 1907: “How much does the average local mail man walk in a day. Many took part to find out and the average per man is 12 miles a day. In town, there are many steps to climb as well as a lot of territory to cover. Rural carriers have longer routes. : For some reason, there is not the usual scramble for appointive city offices after a local election. However mayor-elect Barker says there are no problems because there are more than enough good applicants and that he will have no trouble finding good people for important jobs.”
