Kansas baseball tumbles

K-State claims 10-6 nonconference victory

? Kansas State scored seven runs in the first two innings and held on for a 10-6, non-conference baseball victory Tuesday over Kansas University at Tointon Stadium.

KU bolted to a 3-0 lead in the first, but KSU responded with five runs in the bottom of the frame and two more in the second.

Trailing 7-3 entering the third, KU tried to rally, when Buck Afenir drove in a run with an RBI single, and the Jayhawks (16-18) scored another run off a wild pitch.

But again the Wildcats (21-8) pulled away.

The Jayhawks stranded the tying runs in the eighth and left 11 men on base for the night.

Afenir was the only KU player with multiple hits.

He finished 2-for-5 with two RBIs.

Kyle Murphy and Preston Land each scored two runs for the Jayhawks.

Touched for five earned runs off two hits – with four walks – without recording an out, Andres Esquibel (4-3) took the loss for the Jayhawks.

KU will play host to Kansas Wesleyan in a single game at 4 p.m. today at Hoglund Ballpark.
