— House Speaker Nancy Pelosi on Monday shrugged off White House criticism of her impending visit to Damascus, saying she had "great hope" for reviving U.S. relations with Syria and changing its behavior.

Speaking hours after arriving in Beirut, Pelosi indicated the Bush administration was singling out her trip to Syria while ignoring recent visits by Republican members of Congress.

"It's interesting because three of our colleagues, who are all Republicans, were in Syria yesterday and I didn't hear the White House speaking out about that," Pelosi said, referring to the Sunday meeting of Reps. Frank Wolf, Joe Pitts and Robert Aderholt with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus.

"I think that it was an excellent idea for them to go," said Pelosi, who is to meet with Syrian leaders Wednesday. "And I think it's an excellent idea for us to go, as well."

In Washington, White House spokeswoman Dana Perino stressed Monday that the Bush administration objected to all visits to Syria.

"We ask that people not go on these trips," she said. "We discourage it. Full stop."

Hey Righty, did you see Nancy dressed in the Burka? what an amazing insult to the many millions of women who are oppressed under the Burka. if she lived under the Burka, she wouldn't be speaker, wouldn't be traveling, would stay at home, would have been forced to marry a man chosen by his and her families--she'd have no choice. if she lived under the Burka, she couldn't travel unescorted anywhere else she'd be presumed to be a prostitute. she would not be allowed to speak her mind (one benefit to the rest of us). she would not have control of her own money, let alone controlling the spending of the U.S. tax dollars. if she lived under the Burka she'd have to fear violence much more than an American woman would. Sonya Naz (perhaps alternate spelling) had her husband killed while in the custody of the Pakistani authorities. she went to their parliament to protest, was hauled off to the police station. while there she was raped more than once.

when I hear modern feminists complaining about something here in the U.S. I always smile, laugh, and say to myself..."okay, you go to Pakistan or Saudi, then you'll have something REALLY worth beefing about!"

makes me sick to see San Fran Burka Nan meeting with the terrorist sponsor who wants Israel to be whiped off the map...more liberal antisemitism-just to poke a finger in GWB's eye she's helping our enemies and should now be called: "Axis Nancy!"
