Lightning strikes home near KU campus

No major damage reported

An apparent lightning strike at a home near Kansas University led to a fire call early this morning.

Firefighters responded to a report of an odor of smoke about 5:45 a.m. after lightning apparently struck the roof of a home in the 2900 block of Oxford Road. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire & Medical Division Chief Joe Hoelscher said crews checked the attic and the living areas of the house but that there didn’t appear to be major damage. Crews were on the scene for about an hour.
