Kansas City, Mo. ? A woman who was on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list was arrested at a north Kansas City apartment where police were looking for an acquaintance of hers.

Shauntay L. Henderson is charged with one count of second-degree murder, and police have said in court documents that she had been identified as a suspect in a series of assaults and killings in south Kansas City.

Police said Henderson, 24, of Kansas City, answered the apartment door Saturday night when officers knocked. Police said officers had gone to the apartment to arrest a “known associate” of Henderson and knocked on the door after arresting that person.

Henderson, a reputed gang member, is charged in Jackson County Circuit Court with the September 2006 shooting death of DeAndre M. Parker. Henderson also is charged in a federal warrant for unlawful flight to avoid prosecution.

She was being held on a $250,000 cash bond.

Parker, 20, was killed as he sat in a pickup truck outside a convenience store. Court documents did not give a motive for the shooting.

Henderson was only the eighth woman to be included on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list since its inception 57 years ago, and the first woman on the list since 1994. She was caught around 8 p.m. Saturday, shortly before the television show “America’s Most Wanted” announced her inclusion on the list.

The FBI news release about Henderson said she was a “person of interest” in four or five additional homicides and up to 50 other shootings.

“Henderson’s reported violence has helped perpetuate a gang war among Henderson’s affiliates and members of other gang organizations whom Henderson perceives as her enemies,” according to the FBI.

According to police, Henderson is believed to be the leader of the 12th Street gang, which is linked with the 51st Street gang to make more money in criminal ventures. Police have said those two gangs are feuding with others.

Henderson was the first fugitive to make the list from the FBI’s Kansas City region since October 1989, when Bobby Gene Dennie was captured about eight months after he was added to the list, Special Agent Jeff Lanza said.
