Lawrence residents now have a new way to determine whether their home contractor or remodeler is properly licensed by the city of Lawrence.

The city’s Neighborhood Resources Department has launched a Web site feature that allows users to search for licensed contractors.

Users can access the online database at www.lawrenceneighres.org/contractors..

The Web site allows users to search contractor listings based on the type of license the contractor holds. Those categories include general contractor, building contractor, residential contractor, concrete contractor, framing contractor, mechanical contractors for heating and air systems, and plumbing contractors.

The city in 2005 passed regulations essentially requiring all professional builders to be licensed by the city to help ensure that builders have the necessary knowledge to work in the community.
