Creighton slips past Kansas, 1-0

? Katy Peetz’s goal in the 51st minute doomed Kansas University to a 1-0 soccer loss to Creighton on Friday at Morrison Stadium.

Peetz took advantage of a misplayed throw-in in the box just six minutes into the second half. Sam Russell’s flip throw eluded the Kansas defense deep in the box, and Peetz connected for her first goal of the season.

“I’m disappointed,” KU coach Mark Francis said. “We hit the post a couple of times and they buried the chance they had.”

Kansas outshot the Bluejays 12-9 on the night.

In the 28th minute, freshman Monica Dolinsky came within inches of her fifth goal of the season, when her shot from inside the box rattled off the crossbar on the near side of the goal.

Ten minutes later, Holly Gault had a long run through the Creighton defense, but could not bend a shot from 18 yards to the net.

KU fell to 6-4. Creighton improved to 6-5-1.

The Jayhawks will face Nebraska at 1 p.m. Sunday in Lincoln, Neb.
