Soccer games will go on, nets or no nets

Game on.

Thieves took 16 goal nets from the Youth Sports Inc. complex, but that won’t stop Kaw Valley Soccer Assn. from playing games this weekend.

Equipment coordinator Pat Lindeman has ordered an express shipment of replacement nets and hopes they’ll arrive in time for this weekend’s youth soccer games.

The regular nets used for the youngsters’ soccer games turned up missing Monday, and league officials doubted whether the games would go on.

But Brad Williams, the association’s vice president, said nets or no nets, the games will happen.

“It is not fair to further inconvenience you or your family,” Williams wrote to the nearly 1,500 families that have children playing in the association.

Also, several organizations, including the Lawrence Luncheon Optimists, pledged money to pay for replacement nets.
