Richard Chappelle, the Wal-Mart store manager who took the company's Lawrence location through an expansion into a full-fledged Supercenter, has left the company, officials said Monday.

The store, at 3300 Iowa, now is under the temporary leadership of its two assistant managers. No replacement manager has been named.

Jami Arms, a Wal-Mart spokeswoman in Bentonville, Ark., declined to comment on the circumstances involving Chappelle's departure, other than to confirm that he no longer works for the company. A manager taking Chappelle's calls at the store said that Chappelle had left to pursue other opportunities.

Wal-Mart recently completed an expansion that added more than 80,000 square feet to the Lawrence store, which operates 24 hours a day and now includes a grocery and other features.

Well, heck!

The guy's an embezzler!

Okay, now that explains everything!

LOL!

Mr. Chappelle! Shame on you! What would do you think that Sam Walton say to you if he were still alive?!

He'd probably give you a good scolding, I'm sure!

Of course, as far as the Walton family goes.....100,000 clams is mere pocket change (not even)!

Okay, so some store manager guy no longer works for Wal*Mart.

So why is this news?

I mean, it's not like he's a "big fish" in the Wal*Mart chain-of-command!
