D. Scott Olivet, chief executive officer of Oakley Inc., has joined the board of directors for Payless ShoeSource Inc., Topeka.

Before joining Oakley in 2005, Olivet had been Nike Inc.’s vice president for Nike subsidiaries and new business development since 2001. During that time he led, developed and executed Nike’s multibranding strategy, including Cole Haan, Converse, Hurley, Starter and Bauer-Nike Hockey brands.

Cole Haan’s chairman and CEO during that time, Matthew Rubel, now is Payless’ president and CEO, having left the Nike subsidiary last year.

Rubel announced Olivet’s appointment to the 10-member board Monday. Olivet’s term expires in 2009.

Payless has more than 4,500 stores, including one in Lawrence.
