KU softball goes 3-1 in exhibition openers

Kassie Humphreys collected 16 strikeouts in two weekend appearances, and Val Chapple went 6-for-7 in two games Sunday to pace Kansas University’s softball team to a 3-1 record at Arrocha Ballpark to start the fall season.

Saturday, in an 11-2 victory over Pittsburg State, Humphreys struck out 10 and gave up two hits over five innings. Stevie Crisosto went 3-for-3 with a double and home run with four RBIs, and Elle Pottorf went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. KU lost to Missouri Western, 2-1. Betsy Wilson had two hits, and Pottorf had three walks.

Sunday, KU blanked Pitt State, 8-0. Chappel was 3-for-3 with three RBIs, and Stephanie McCaulley and Wilson each had two hits. Later Sunday, KU beat Butler, 10-3. Humphreys struck out six and threw three hitless innings. Chapple was 3-for-4 with three RBIs, and Tracy Lubken was 2-for-3.
