Winless Haskell hits road to take on Friends

? Haskell Indian Nations University’s three-game stretch against Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference foes will hit the midway point today against Friends University.

Kickoff will be at 7 p.m. at Adair-Austin Stadium.

HINU (0-3) began the KCAC three-spot with a 21-7 loss to St. Mary on Saturday in Lawrence.

The Fightin’ Indians will end the short KCAC stretch a week from today when they play host to Southwestern in the start of a three-game homestand.

The homestand continues with Briar Cliff on Oct. 7 and concluded with Avila on Oct. 14.

The Avila game will serve as the Fightin’ Indians’ homecoming.

Mistakes have plagued the Indians in the early going. Last week against St. Mary, HINU wasted a 147-yard rushing performance by red-shirt freshman tailback Bubba Wills by losing four fumbles and absorbing 115 yards in penalties.

Friends (1-1) opened with a 44-7 thumping of Bethany two weeks ago.

The Falcons dropped a 20-18 heartbreaker to Kansas Wesleyan last weekend.

In that setback, Friends had an extra-point kick blocked and missed a two-point conversion, more than accounting for the deficit.

Friends beat Haskell, 29-10, last year in Lawrence.
