Perry-Lecompton rallies past Santa Fe Trail

Garrison scores two TDs to help Kaws remain undefeated with 22-14 victory; Eudora, McLouth claim shutout victories

? Brent Garrison scored on runs of one and 11 yards, Caleb Denton ran for 120 yards on 22 carries, and Perry-Lecompton High beat Santa Fe Trail, 22-14, on Friday in a football battle of unbeatens.

Santa Fe Trail (3-1) tied the game at 14 when Alex Boss scored on a 63-yard run on the first play of the second half.

But Perry-Lecompton (4-0) went ahead, 16-14, on a safety, then added a touchdown on a one-yard run by Garrison.

Boss gained 96 yards on 11 carries for Santa Fe Trail.

Perry improved to 4-0, while SFT fell to 3-1.

Eudora – Travis Clarke rushed for 145 yards and a touchdown, and quarterback Kent Swanson competed 11 of 16 passes for 184 yards and three touchdowns. He also ran in the Cardinals’ first score. Eudora (4-0) will play Gardner next week.

McLouth 46, Valley Falls 0

McLouth – Trevor Keling scored on runs of six, 53, 28 and 12 yards, and Mark Stewart threw TD passes of 60 and 12 yards as the Bulldogs scored a homecoming rout.

“It was a pretty nice win,” McLouth coach Harry Hester said. “We were pretty pleased with the kids. They played well.”

Keling rushed for 203 yards on just 11 carries, and Stewart completed seven of nine passes for 145 yards.

“I don’t know if you ever expect 203 yards out of anybody, but Keling did a great job for us,” Hester said. “He had four touchdowns and almost had five. He came within a yard of another touchdown, and we pulled him midway through the third quarter when they started the running clock.”

McLouth (3-1) outgained Valley Falls, 440 total yards to 79.

The Bulldogs will travel Friday to Jackson Heights.

Baldwin 34, Ottawa 21

Ottawa – Sam Beecher rushed for three touchdowns, and Chase Abel ran for two as Baldwin rebounded from a two-touchdown deficit.

Darius Johnson had TD scoring runs of 59, four and 58 yards for Ottawa in a three-TD second quarter, but the Cyclones were held scoreless the rest of the way.

Beecher scored on a pair of five-yard runs and on a 31-yarder.

Abel’s scoring runs were of 10 and 11 yards.

“We got our first win on the road which I am very happy about,” BHS coach Mike Berg said. “We’ve got to learn how to get off the bus and get ready to play. We can’t spot teams like that points in the Frontier League.”

Johnson had 209 rushing yards on 21 carries for Ottawa (0-4).

“I got to give our kids credit, because they came back and responded,” Berg said. “We challenged them at halftime. I am very proud of the character that they showed.”

Baldwin improved to 2-2. Ottaw fell to 0-4.
