Natural gas users in Lawrence were facing “another sizable rate increase” which by year’s end was due to boost the average monthly residential bill to over $42 for the year. The announcement came from a Kansas Public Service official. The average bill was to rise about $8.80 a month, according to Bill Salome, president of KPS, the local natural gas utility. He said higher rates to be charged by the supplier, Cities Service, would result in “as great an increase as we have seen at any one time.”
