New Edward Campus biology lab dedicated

Kansas University’s Edwards Campus on Tuesday had a dedication ceremony for a new molecular biology lab.

The 1,900-square-foot facility includes a teaching lab, research lab, preparatory area and sterile culture room. It features a biosafety level 2+ designation, which will enable the lab to handle most microbes used in teaching microbiology, pathogenic microbiology and genetics.

Lab construction began in April and was completed in time for fall semester classes. Previously, students used lab facilities at Johnson County Community College to complete education requirements.

The campus also has added two lab classes: biochemistry and molecular biology. Students can use the facility to conduct research during campus hours.
