Jayhawks fifth at invite

? The Kansas University women’s golf team currently sits fifth among 14 teams following the first two rounds of the Chip-N Club Invitational on Monday at Yankee Hill Country Club.

The Jayhawks carded a 639 team score through 36 holes of play. Host Nebraska is in the lead at 623, followed by Campbell University at 630.

Bad weather, including temperatures in the 40s and winds over 20 mph, kept players from going low. Only seven among the 80-player field broke 80 in the opening round.

“The weather has been difficult, but overall we have been playing well,” said KU coach Erin O’Neil. “We are in good position to make up some ground.”

Freshmen Meghan Gockel is the highest Jayhawk on the leaderboard, tied for fifth place at 157. Fellow freshman Emily Powers is tied for 13th at 19.

Nebraska’s Chrissie McArdle is the individual leader at 152.

The final round is slated for today with an 8 a.m. shotgun start.
