Cool day ahead

Temperatures to drop to 30s overnight

Lawrence was off to a dry, but cool start this morning. And it’s going to stay that way.

“You’ll probably want that jacket or a sweatshirt on the way out,” Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist, said. “Temperatures will be staying in the 60s.”

At 7:15 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 46 degrees, the humidity was 93 percent and winds were out of the northwest at 3 mph. The average low temperature for this date is 58 degrees. The record low was 38 degrees, set in 1901.

Temperatures are expected to climb to only 69 degrees by late this afternoon, with scattered clouds and northwest winds 5 to 15 mph, Schack said. The average high temperature for this date is 80 degrees. The record high was 100 degrees, set in 1931.

Overnight, temperatures will fall to 39 degrees by early Tuesday morning, she said. Tuesday’s high will climb to 67, she said.

Schack said Wednesday’s morning temperature will start at 45 degrees, climbing to a high of 79 by Wednesday afternoon.

The next chance for rain is Thursday morning, she said.
