Special hunt planned

The Corps of Engineers at Clinton Lake will hold its third annual special hunt at Bloomington Park during the entire month of November.

Hunters’ names are drawn from a pool of applications to hunt at an assigned area. Hunters are required to carry a special permit issued by the Corps and follow all Kansas statutes.

Normally, hunting is not permitted in park areas at Clinton Lake.

“This is a great way of managing the deer population in the park,” Eric Patterson, one of last year’s participants, said.

One change this year will be the requirement that all hunters purchase a whitetail antlerless deer game tag or permit in addition to their required whitetail either sex permit.

The areas included in the hunt are not managed by Wildlife and Parks so a whitetail antlerless deer game tag may be purchased and used for this hunt.

Interested hunters can call the Corps at 843-7665 or e-mail to clinton@usace.army.mil and request an application. The application deadline is Oct. 2.
