Strong effort still not enough for Veritas

? St. Joseph (Mo.) Christian scored 16 points in the second and fourth quarters en route to a 32-6 victory over Veritas Christian on Friday night.

Veritas, which opened the scoring on a 4-yard run by Ben Reynolds, outgained St. Joe, 290 yards to 266. Halfback Michael Kay gained 67 yards off 22 carries.

Krestan Boutross was cited for strong play on the line.

St. Joe quarterback Adam Nelson threw three touchdown passes and scored on a 4-yard run. He also hit three two-point conversion passes.

“This was a good effort. We didn’t make the big plays or finish our long drives,” coach Doug Bennett said.

“We just had some breakdowns defensively that allowed some big plays.”

Veritas (0-3) will play host to Wichita Trinity at 7 p.m. next Friday.
