¢ Alison King, of Venture Crew 2052, chartered to St. Margaret’s Episcopal Church, returned in August from Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico. Alison was one of only seven young women in the country to finish this year’s three week Roving Outdoor Conservation School. She hiked more than 125 miles, spending several days learning about environmental issues and building and improving trails.

Seven members of Girl Scout Troop 736 were presented their Gold Award pins at a recent ceremony. The Gold Award is similar to the Boy Scout Eagle Award. The girls planned and built a stage area next to the pond at the Lawrence Arboretum and put on a play last October.

Those who received the pins : Emma Burgess-Olson, Cooper Farr, Kelly Gibson, Maggie Hall, Alison King, Kathryn Lewis and Libby McClure. Gwen Macpherson is the troop’s leader.

The Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department plans a dedication ceremony from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 30 for the area and will recognize several groups who have contributed projects.
