From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 16, 1906: “The new athletic assessment support plan decided by the Kansas University faculty last spring and the $2 required to assist sports has brought in a good deal of needed money. The fee does not go entirely to athletics, however, but is divided among athletics, university band, debating, orchestra, glee club and the mandolin club. : Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday three parties of women were assaulted by a man concealed in the alley behind the Christian church. He grabbed three women, all university students, and tried to drag them back into the alley but when they screamed and help arrived, the man fled.”
