Jewish community center receives grants
The Lawrence Jewish Community Center will create the Lawrence Jewish Learning Center, thanks to two grants it has received.
The grants, from the Jewish Heritage Foundation and the Flo Harris Foundation, will allow the center to hold activities designed to bring a greater understanding of the Jewish faith and cultural activities to others.
Rabbi Debbie Stiel, who is a part-time rabbi at the Jewish Community Center, will be director of the Jewish Learning Center.
Plans call for support for Jewish education programs, teacher education sessions for religious-school teachers and adult education programs. The center also will incorporate students involved with KU Hillel, a Jewish organization at Kansas University.
