Santana sinks Detroit, 12-1

? Johan Santana struck out 11 in Minnesota’s 12-1 victory over Detroit on Sunday, pitching two-hit ball into the seventh inning and pulling the Twins within two games of first-place Detroit in the AL Central.

The Twins haven’t lost a Santana home start since Aug. 6, 2005, going 22-0 in that span. Santana (18-5) is 15-0 with a 1.92 earned-run average during that stretch. He leads the majors in wins, strikeouts and ERA. Nick Punto had four hits and three RBIs.

Chicago – Victor Martinez hit a tiebreaking homer in the ninth inning, and C.C. Sabathia pitched a four-hitter.

St. Petersburg, Fla. – Frank Thomas homered for the fifth consecutive game and drove in three runs. Eric Chavez hit a two-run shot for the A’s.

Anaheim, Calif. – Jered Weaver struck out Troy Glaus with the bases loaded to help preserve his 11th victory.

Yankees 9, Orioles 4

Baltimore – Derek Jeter extended his career-high hitting streak to 20 games, going 2-for-4 with a homer and four RBIs.

Seattle – Michael Young had three hits and drove in the go-ahead run in the ninth inning.
