From the Lawrence Daily World for Sept. 9, 1906: “A suit has been filed against local game wardens for the destruction of fishing nets when arrests were made for apparent illegal fishing here. Settlement might be costly to the state. : There appear to be disparities in the population figures for various Kansas districts and officials are calling for some recounts that do not favor special sectors. : The KU football squad begins practicing today and although prospects are good for the team, there are eight regulars who currently are not in action. A number of players will arrive later in the week. : The Hounds and the Hares continue their red-hot membership drive for the YMCA and the Hares seem to be winning in the early going. At last reports, they were ahead by nine new members.”
