Open house celebrates monarch migration

Monarch Watch at Kansas University will have its fall open house from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Foley Hall on KU’s west campus.

The event celebrates the arrival of migrating monarchs from the north.

Participants can learn about monarch way stations and see the butterfly and pollinator garden created by Margarete Johnson of the Douglas County Master Gardeners.

The open house will include refreshments, show-and-tell activities, monarch tagging and iChat videoconferencing demonstrations.

A monarch chrysalis will be given to each child who attends, and there may be some left over for adults.

Participants also are urged to bring their cameras to capture the butterflies, flowers and other sights.
