Temperatures warm up into 80s

Thunderstorms possible Saturday night

Temperatures in the low 50s and some patchy fog were waiting for commuters on their way to work this morning.

“It could reduce visibility in low-lying areas. Be careful on your way out,” said Jennifer Schack, 6News meteorologist.

But the fog will burn off quickly, leaving behind mostly sunny skies and south winds 3 to 8 mph today, Schack said.

Temperatures will climb to a high of 84 degrees, which is the average high for this date, she said. The record high was 102 degrees, set in 1947.

At 7:45 a.m., Lawrence Municipal Airport’s temperature was 51 degrees, the humidity was 96 percent and winds were calm.

The average low temperature for this date is 62 degrees. The record low was 45 degrees, set in 1934.

Overnight, the temperature will fall to 54 degrees by early Friday morning, Schack said.

Friday’s high temperature will be 85 degrees, with winds 5-10 mph and partly cloudy skies.

Saturday’s morning low will be 58 degrees, with Saturday’s high climbing to only 79 degrees, with plenty of clouds, she said.

There’s a chance of thunderstorms Saturday night into Sunday, Schack said.
