The contract for a New Orleans artist, Lin Emery, to create a kinetic sculpture for the new City Hall was signed, and the $35,000 art work, eventually titled "Flame," was to become a reality. It remains a prominent presence by the front entrance to Lawrence City Hall with the accompanying Langston Hughes reminder that "We have tomorrow before us bright like a flame."
