Freshmen carry Baker

? Freshman tight end Taylor Burnett caught his second touchdown pass of the game with just more than seven minutes remaining as the Baker University football team rallied for a 17-13 victory against Benedictine College in Saturday’s season opener.

Burnett, who prepped at nearby De Soto High, hauled in the 7-yard scoring strike from another freshman, quarterback Mack Brown, to give the Wildcats their first lead of the game. The same duo hooked up just before halftime on a 1-yard TD toss, leaving Benedictine with a 13-10 lead at the break.

Brown, a transfer from Colorado, finished 13-for-30 for 172 yards and an interception in his debut. He also led Baker with 36 rushing yards on 6 carries.

The Wildcats will return to action Saturday in their home opener against Graceland. Kickoff is slated for 6 p.m. at Liston Stadium.
