Moscow ? An earthquake measuring 6 on the Richter scale struck the eastern coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, in Russia’s Far East, a local seismic station said Friday.

The epicenter, which was identified about 11:30 p.m. local time, was 55 miles northeast of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, the regional center.

No casualties, destruction or tsunami threat were reported.

This is the second earthquake to hit the seismically unstable region in recent days. Aug. 25 saw a magnitude 6.4 quake near the peninsula’s southwestern coast.
