¢Brenna Stebbins, Overbrook, is a new junior member of the American Angus Assn. Junior members of the association are eligible to register cattle in the American Angus Assn., participate in programs conducted by the National Junior Angus Assn. and take part in association-sponsored shows and other national and regional events. The American Angus Assn. is the largest beef registry group in the world, with more than 34,000 active adult and junior members.

The descendants of Louis and Elisabeth Johanning Haas had their 52nd annual reunion Aug. 13 at the home of David Gaebler in Kansas City, Mo. There was a basket dinner, program and business meeting. Melanie Coffman was president and Lucile Shoemaker was secretary. Everyone received a fan – designed and made by Coffman – that showed wedding pictures of some of the Haas-Johanning ancestors.

Those who attended from the Baldwin area were: Oscar Stoebener, Lyle and Paula Bowlin, Tammy Lamb, Ruth Stoebener, Wayne and Janel Coffman, Curtis, Jay and Melanie Coffman, Richard and Dorothy Johanning, Harold and Barbara Johnson, Melissa Bryan, Gracie Bryan, and Allan and Darlene Schwarz.

The next reunion will be Aug. 12, 2007. Lucile Shoemaker will be hostess. Reta Gaebler will be president, and Tammy Lamb will be secretary.

Morgan Brown, a freshman at Perry-Lecompton High School, was selected as a top 10 merit finalist in the 2006 Miss Teen of Kansas Scholarship and Recognition program Aug. 11-13 in Manhattan.

There were 36 contestants ranging in age from 13 to 18. They were judged on scholastic record, service and achievement, general awareness, personal development, poise and personality in formal wear, and personality in a judge’s interview. Morgan was sponsored by Fraternal Order of Police Lawrence Lodge 2. Her parents are Pam and Sean Brown.
