Breast cancer gala tops fundraising goal

Organizers of the Stepping Out Against Breast Cancer fundraiser said this year’s gala raised more than last year’s $53,000 fundraising total.

Although organizers didn’t yet have exact numbers, co-chairwoman Nancy Thellman said they sold more than 500 tickets to Saturday’s event at $25 each. Plus, she said, donations, raffles and other fundraisers helped push the total higher.

The donations help provide mammograms for uninsured and underinsured Douglas County residents, plus equipment and education materials for Lawrence Memorial Hospital.

The hospital sponsors the fundraiser, which this year was at the Toyota Pavilion in the Crown Auto Plaza, 3400 S. Iowa.
