Garcia 1st, Graff 2nd at state

? Baldwin High’s Heather Garcia won the Class 4A girls cross country individual championship, and Eudora’s Brittney Graff took second Saturday, while De Soto took the girls team title.

Garcia won in 14:05.25, followed by Graff in 14:24.41.

“She and Heather are two of the top runners in the state of Kansas,” Eudora coach Paul Boone said of Graff and Garcia.

In the boys race, Baldwin’s Chris Elniff took second in 17:07.82, and Eudora’s Joey Chino was fourth in 17:11.15.

The De Soto girls were led by Carly Stanley, seventh in 15:11.1, and Lauren Karnitz, eighth in 15:12.25.

De Soto won the girls championship with 67 points, followed by Baldwin with 83. Tonganoxie took eighth with 211 points, and Eudora was 10th with 213.

Baldwin also took second place in the boys team standings with 70 points, trailing El Dorado with 63. De Soto was third with 94, and Tonganoxie took fifth with 164 points.
