Club news

The Betty Washington Chapter of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution met Sept. 30 at Lawrence Memorial Hospital. Stacy Cope gave a report on the 115th Continental Congress.

The group also met Oct. 21 at LMH. The death of Fay Talley was reported, and Mary Burchill gave a presentation on the Santa Fe Trail. The next meeting will be at 10 a.m. Nov. 18 at LMH.

The Wednesday Afternoon Bridge Club played a stratified Mitchell movement at seven and a half tables directed by Virginia Seaver on Oct. 11. Placing first overall at North-South were Betty Spalsbury and Margrete Hartman who won first in A, B and C. Grant Sutton and Harry Shaffer won second in A and B, and Julia Brooks and Chris Lane won third in A. Betty Collier and Klee Zaricky won second in C and third in B.

Dave Piro and Paul Heitzman won first in A at East-West, followed by Jeane Landry and Ed Howard who won second in A. Carol Ball and Mona Bell won third in A and first in B and C. Sally Taylor and Yvonne Hedges won second in B, and Ann Thompson and Pat Musick won third in B and second in C.

On Oct. 18, the club played a stratified Mitchell movement at eight and a half tables directed by Virginia Seaver. Virginia Eddy and Phyllis Brownlee placed first overall at North-South, winning first in A, B, and C. Ed Howard and Harry Shaffer won second in A, and Virginia Seaver and Madelyn Jenks won third in A. Chris Lane and Mona Bell won second in B, followed by Klee Zaricky and Betty Collier who won third in B and second in C.

Lois Clark and Mark Osborn led the East-West teams, winning first in A, B and C. Shirley and John Reese won second in A and B, and Shari Krentzel and Chuck Hedges won third in A and B and second in C.

University Bridge Club announces winners of its Oct. 21 meeting. Hosts were Dave and Mary Gaumer with Al and Carol Smith.

Blue winners were Roy Cropp, first; George Bocquin, second; Janet Duhn, third; Tom Waller, fourth; and Dale Kring, fifth.

Pink winners were Virginia Williams, first; Mary Gaumer and Carol Smith, second; Alice Akin, third; Wanda Kring, fourth; and Jean Etherton, fifth.

The Wednesday Evening Bridge Club played two and a half tables directed by Don Brennaman on Oct. 11. Judy Bevan and Shari Krentzel won first, followed by Virginia Seaver and Harriett Olson.

On Oct. 18, the club played three tables directed by Don Brennaman. Shari Krentzel and Chuck Hedges won first in A, followed by Elle and Bobby Patton who won second in A and first in B.

Ed Howard and Harry Shaffer won first in A at North-South, and Carol Ball and Phyllis Brownlee won second in A and first in B and C. Betty Collier and Lester Dalton won third in A and second in B. Shirlie Vaughn and Harriett Olson won third in B and second in C.

At East-West, Virginia Seaver and Chuck Hedges won first in A, followed by Paul Heitzman and Dave Piro who won second. Madelyn Jenks and Mona Bell won third in A and first in both B and C. Second in B was won by Eldon Herd and Mark Osborn, and second in C went to Lynn Hui and Cathy Blumenfeld.

The club played a stratified Mitchell movement at 10 tables directed by Don Brennaman on Oct. 20. The North-South pairs were led by Lynn Hui and Harry Shaffer who won first in A and B. Dee Scott and Clara Elkins of Emporia won second in A and B, and Shirley Reese and Chris Lane won third in both strata.

Lois Clark and Betty Collier won first in C and Phyllis Brownlee and Mary Joyce won second.

Virginia Seaver and Klee Zaricky led the East-West pairs, winning first in A. Jeane Landry and Ed Howard won second in A. Tom Peavler and Bob Dailey of Emporia won first in B and C and third in A. Shari Krentzel and Deb Bettinger won second in B and C.

The Sunday Afternoon Bridge Club played a two-table team game directed by Chris Lane on Oct. 15. The event ended in a three-way tie for first place.
